On the positive side, though, it's not all that expensive. It's all very well to say that there is plenty of stuff online, but the whole point of the device is supposed to be efficiency, and how efficient is it if someone needs to google "water to rice ration for Instant Pot" rather than just having it handy in a booklet in a kitchen drawer? The manual that came with it was incredibly lacking in detail or advice. But will it be any better than my old rice cooked? Remains to be seen. I'm cautiously optimist that the Instant Pot will please in this respect. It's been a long time since I pressure-cooked rice, but I seem to recall getting pretty good results. The Jambalaya rice turned out pretty well, but the real test will be things like basmati and jasmine rices cooked alone. One of the things that interested me about it was that it was claimed to be a rice cooker too, so that potentially meant one less appliance in the pantry. I really love that there is a sauté function on the Instant Pot, this helps to reduce clean up as you can do all in the one pot. Therefore you also know how long you have overcooked past your recommended cooking time. Also the timer function is really great as once it has counted down if you forget to switch off or change settings, it actually starts counting up. Despite this I had always wanted an Instant Pot and decided to purchase one anyway. Mostly this was due to hearing of some unpleasant experiences, involving a number of these types of cookers.
